The Canadian Federation of Medical Students (CFMS) is excited to announce that it is holding the first annual research symposium on Saturday, April 17th, 2026 at 3:30 PM EST. During this research symposium, you will have the opportunity to present your research work in a brief format on many different topics including basic science, clinical research, or medical advocacy/equity. You will be presenting to fellow medical students, residents, and staff physicians in attendance at the 2026 Canadian Medical Student Conference taking place this year in Ottawa, ON. However, the research symposium offers an online option for students who will not be able to be present in person.

The symposium will be taking the form of a research-blitz, which will involve presenters spending no longer than 3 minutes per presentation. Each presentation will only involve one slide which should be aimed to summarize your work in a brief and graphically appearing format. Presentations will be evaluated independently by members of CFMS and will be ranked according to quality of research, oral presentation, and slide. Awards will be provided to top presenters!

To apply for the research symposium, a 250-word abstract is required along with a full list of authors and affiliations.

Application Deadline: Sunday, March 8th, 2026 at 11:59 PM.

PLEASE NOTE: You will need to register for CMSC to be able to attend and present at the research symposium. The early bird deadline for CMSC, during which the research symposium is taking place, is Saturday, February 28th, 2026. You may still apply for CMSC-only registration following the early bird deadline but there will be a significant increase in then ICAM portion of the registration cost.
